Proyecto Azteca is a 501(c)3 non-profit founded in 1991 in the spirit of Cesar Chavez in collaboration with the United Farmworkers of America, Texas Rural Legal Aid and Texas Low Income Housing Information Service. Our objective is to build a better world by giving low and very low income families the opportunity to achieve the dream of owning their own home.

Proyecto Azteca is limited to the number of homes built by the amount of funding it has. Contributions help us continue the work of our founders to build on the people’s willingness to help themselves by self-help housing; through this experience, people’s dignity and respect are restored in believing that with the proper support they can address their needs.

Our work is not a handout it is a hand up. Families must put 550 hours of construction into their home and then Proyecto Azteca finances the home at 0% interest.

Proyecto Azteca is an opportunity to help working poor families gain upward mobility and break the cycle of poverty by giving their children hope for a better life. In the last 20 plus years we have helped build over 700 homes in over 150 colonias and cities in Hidalgo County.  Although our families may be poor financially they are rich in spirit and deserving of an opportunity.

Yours sincerely,
Amber Arriaga-Salinas
Director of Public Relations, Proyecto Azteca
