Volunteers
Proyecto Azteca facilitates construction for low income families that live in rural areas in Hidalgo County, TX.
We work with a self-help model that requires that families work on their own homes. Unfortunately, some of our families who are either disabled, elderly or both cannot fulfill the 550 "sweat equity" hour requirement that our programs ask for and
that is where volunteers become the real difference for our families. The hours our volunteers put in are banked and used to help elderly and disabled families meet their sweat equity requirement.
If you are a volunteer and come work with us, you are directly helping a disabled or elderly family build their first home.
Volunteers are needed year round and we offer a variety of experiences and options for our volunteers. Typically we begin the volunteer process with an orientation and volunteers can do anything from construction under the supervision of our construction staff to helping at our on site native plant nursery and even providing support in the office if that is something volunteers would prefer. We do ask that people interested in volunteering contact us at least two weeks prior to the date an individual or group would like to come in so that we may plan to accommodate accordingly.
